The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) has been present in Quebec City since 1988, when it formed a partnership with the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS). The resulting joint research centre, called the Québec Geoscience Centre, or QGC, is staffed by scientists from GSC-Québec and from the water, earth and environment centre of the INRS (INRS-ETE).
The GSC-Québec is one of seven divisions of the Geological Survey of Canada. The scientists at GSC-Québec conduct research activities on regional geology to address socio-economic issues related to georesources (groundwater, minerals and fossil fuels) and environmental geoscience (natural hazards, climate change and metals in the environment).
We publish on a yearly basis an annual report that highlights the achievements of the Québec Geoscience Centre’s team and their contributions in the regional geoscience community. Québec Geoscience Centre, Annual report (French only)
One of the goals of the GSC-Québec is to raise awareness of earth sciences among the general public and to help train future scientists. To this end, we support various initiatives to raise and sustain the scientific interest of youth.
